How to hire local help safely
Whether it's someone to run errands, clean, or walk the dog, letting a new person help with your home or family takes some trust. This checklist covers what to do before, during, and after, wherever you find help.
Before you choose someone
- Describe the job completely and honestly: the tasks, timing, pets, stairs, heavy items.
- Read the person's profile and any ratings from real completed work.
- Ask questions in writing, so you both have a record.
- Don't assume a helper has insurance, a license, or a background check unless that's explicitly confirmed.
Protect your privacy
- Share your exact address only with the person you've chosen.
- Put away valuables, documents, and medications before anyone comes to your home.
- Give out keys or access codes only when you need to, and change codes afterward if needed.
- Never share bank logins or passwords.
Agree on the work and the payment
- Confirm the scope, time, and price before the work starts.
- Pay through a platform that holds payment until the work is done, rather than paying cash up front.
- Keep messages in one place so there's a record if something goes wrong.
Afterward
- Check the work before you confirm it's done.
- Leave an honest review. It helps the next person decide.
- Report anything unsafe to the platform right away, and call 911 in an emergency.
How Momsity handles these
On Momsity, the exact address stays private until a MOM is authorized for your Task, messages stay on the Task, payment runs through Momsity checkout and is held until you confirm, and reviews come only from real completed Tasks. Momsity doesn't run criminal background checks on every MOM, so a profile only shows a check if one was actually done.
How it works
Step 1
Post a Task
Choose the service, the ZIP where help is needed, and when it should happen, then describe the details. The exact address stays private until a MOM is authorized for that Task.
Step 2
Nearby MOMs offer
MOMs whose services and area fit can be notified and can offer on your Task. Not every area has a MOM available yet, so timing and coverage depend on who is nearby.
Step 3
Choose and pay on Momsity
Compare who offered, choose your MOM, and pay through Momsity checkout. You see the total before you pay.
Step 4
Coordinate in Task messages
Your MOM accepts and gets the details they need. Messages stay on the Task so the history and support stay together.
Step 5
Confirm when it is done
Your MOM marks the Task complete and you confirm. Payment is held until you confirm, or released automatically 72 hours after completion if you don't open a review.
Common questions
- Should I pay a helper in cash?
- Paying through a platform keeps a record and lets payment be held until the work is done. On Momsity, payment must stay on Momsity.
- What if something goes wrong during a Task?
- Call 911 in an emergency. Otherwise, report it through the Task. On Momsity you can open a review before confirming, which pauses payment release.
