Which moving tasks are easiest to hand off

By the Momsity team · Updated

The easiest moving jobs to hand off are the ones with a clear start and finish: carrying boxes, the move-out clean, storage runs, assembling furniture at the new place, waiting for the internet installer, and returning equipment. Long-distance trucking and very heavy specialty items still belong with a licensed mover, and important documents should stay with you.

A move is many small jobs

It's tempting to think of a move as one job you either do yourself or pay a moving company for. In practice, it's a list: pack, donate, carry, clean, store, assemble, set up, return, forward. Taking two or three of those off your plate can change how the week feels, even if you still drive the truck yourself.

Easy to hand off

  • Carrying boxes and loading or unloading a truck you've rented (MOMs approved for moving)
  • The move-out clean, so you're not scrubbing an empty apartment at midnight
  • Donation drop-offs and decluttering before you pack
  • Runs to and from a storage unit you've rented
  • Assembling beds, desks, and shelves at the new place
  • Waiting at home for the internet installer or a delivery
  • Returning cable boxes, routers, or other equipment
  • A load of laundry so the bedding is clean on the first night

Keep for a licensed mover, or for yourself

  • Long-distance moves and anything needing a commercial truck
  • Pianos, safes, and other very heavy specialty items
  • Important documents, medication, and valuables
  • Anything involving electrical, plumbing, or wall mounting

A simple timeline

Two weeks out: book any moving help and the move-out clean, and post a decluttering or donation Task if you need one. The week of: storage runs and equipment returns. Moving day: carrying and loading. The first days after: furniture assembly, waiting for installers, and unpacking the kitchen.

If you're moving around a college calendar, everything shifts earlier. The same weekend is move-out for thousands of students, so help is in shorter supply.

Splitting the work into Tasks

One Task per job usually works better than one giant Task. Different jobs suit different people. A MOM approved for moving can carry boxes, while someone else might be the right fit for the clean, and separate Tasks let each person offer on what they're good at.

Where Momsity fits

Each of those jobs maps to a service you can post on Momsity: moving, cleaning, organizing, storage, furniture assembly, wait at home, packages, and laundry. Moving help itself is offered only by MOMs Momsity has approved for moving.

What Momsity doesn't do

  • MOMs aren't a licensed moving company and don't bring a truck by default.
  • Momsity doesn't provide storage space; you arrange the unit.
